[SCENE 1 BEGINS]
[NARRATOR]
There was a time when Ira Curry had none of this.
There was a time when he had no company.
No money.
No career.
No business.
No hope.
And eventually—
no shoes.
At thirty years old, Ira Curry walked barefoot through downtown Houston carrying a red Nike bag, a laptop, and a pair of green dress shoes.
He had just checked out of the psych ward.
He was going home to his mother's house.
And he believed he had failed.
Just a couple years earlier, Ira had been living a completely different life.
He was a finance manager in corporate America earning approximately one hundred and twenty thousand dollars a year, with a path toward a promotion that could have taken him close to two hundred thousand a year.
Then his vision told him to leave.
He didn't understand why.
He argued with it.
But eventually, on August 28, 2018, Ira walked away.
